Import guide

HS codes for sheet metal enclosures and stamped parts

The same sheet metal part can fall under different HS headings depending on what it is used for: 7326 or 7616 for general articles of steel or aluminium, 8538 for parts of electrical switchgear, 8473 for computer parts, 9403 for furniture. The heading changes the duty and, in the EU, whether CBAM applies. Classification is the importer’s responsibility.

Why the heading matters

  • Duty: rates differ by heading and destination country.
  • EU CBAM: steel and aluminium articles under 7326, 7616 and 7318 are in scope; 8538 and 8708 currently are not.
  • US: steel and aluminium derivative tariffs apply to many 7326/7616 lines; check the current Chapter 99 measures for your entry date.
  • Australia: most of these headings enter duty-free from China under ChAFTA.

What we provide

Classification depends on the part’s function and is decided by the importer or their customs broker — we cannot choose a heading to reduce duty. We supply drawings, material certificates, weights and a description of the part’s function to support your classification.
