JIS, ASTM and GB material equivalents

Drawings from Japan use JIS grades, from the US ASTM or UNS, from Europe EN, and Chinese mills supply to GB. This table maps the sheet and strip grades we stamp and fabricate most often. Equivalents are close, not identical — always check the property your part depends on.

Where equivalents differ

  • Tempers: JIS uses suffixes such as 1/2H; ASTM and EN use their own temper codes. Specify temper and hardness, not just the grade.
  • Coatings: SGCC coating mass (for example Z12, Z27) must be stated separately from the base grade.
  • Chemistry: equivalents overlap but limits differ. If your part relies on a property — springback, solderability, corrosion — put that requirement on the drawing.
