Sheet metal

Energy-storage cabinet fabrication

Sierxi fabricates the sheet metal for battery and energy-storage cabinets to the customer’s design: frames, doors, battery shelves and outer skins, laser cut, CNC bent and welded in our Suzhou workshop and coated by finishing partners. We build cabinets up to 3000 mm tall and 1500 mm wide.

What we supply — and what we do not

We are a sheet metal fabricator. We build the cabinet structure and panels to your drawings; battery cells, BMS, wiring and system certification stay with you or your integrator.

Structural design of a battery cabinet

Battery modules are heavy, so the frame and shelves carry most of the design risk. Load ratings, shelf deflection limits and lifting points are set by your engineering team; we build to them and flag anything on the drawing that looks hard to make or weld consistently.

  • Frames are usually formed profiles or welded sections; formed C-profiles reduce welding and distortion
  • Shelves and rails need consistent spacing so modules slide in without binding — mark rail positions as critical dimensions
  • Use folded flanges and stiffeners on long shelves rather than thicker sheet alone
  • Plan lifting eyes or forklift channels into the base frame from the start
  • Keep weld seams out of coated sealing faces where possible

Ventilation, thermal and cable routing cut-outs

Energy-storage cabinets usually need cut-outs for fans, air conditioners or heat exchangers, louvres, cable glands and service access. All of these are laser cut from the drawing, so changes between prototype revisions cost little. Louvres and vents should be designed together with your sealing and ingress requirements.

Materials and corrosion protection

Indoor cabinets are commonly SPCC with powder coat, with galvanized SGCC for internal plates and shelves. Outdoor cabinets need a coating system chosen for the site environment; that specification comes from you and is applied by our finishing partners. Stainless SUS304 is used where coating is not wanted. Earth and bonding points must be masked before coating.

From prototype to production

Because laser cutting and bending need no hard tooling, the first cabinet can be built straight from your drawings and revised quickly. Once the design is frozen, welding fixtures can be added for repeatable production. Each cabinet is checked against the drawing before packing, and a dimensional report can ship with each lot.

CBAM and import duties for steel cabinets

Steel cabinets and their parts may fall under HS headings covered by the EU Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism, depending on classification. Classification is the importer’s decision; we supply material and weight data to support CBAM reporting. See our CBAM guide for EU buyers and our HS code guide for enclosures.

How cabinets are inspected

We work under an ISO 9001:2015 quality system. First articles are checked against the drawing for overall size, squareness, rail and shelf positions, door fit and cut-out locations. Threads in nuts and studs are checked with JIS 6H thread gauges. Production lots are inspected by AQL sampling, and every coated part is inspected when it returns from the finishing partner: coating coverage and finish against the agreed standard, coating thickness, and adhesion by cross-hatch test.

What to send with a cabinet RFQ

  • 3D assembly model (STEP) and 2D drawings of each part
  • Material and thickness for frame, shelves, doors and skins
  • Load requirements and critical dimensions, such as rail spacing and mounting hole positions
  • Coating specification, colour and masked areas, including earth points
  • Hardware list: hinges, locks, gaskets, lifting eyes, cable glands
  • Quantity per order and per year, and whether the first order is a prototype
  • Destination country, for packing, freight and import documents

Packing and shipping cabinets

Tall cabinets are shipped on pallets or in crates with corner and surface protection. Packing and freight are quoted per destination with the parts; we do not quote a single global lead time.

Frequently asked questions

Do you build complete energy-storage systems?

No. We fabricate the cabinet structure and sheet metal to your drawings. Cells, BMS, wiring and system certification stay with you or your integrator.

What is the largest cabinet you can build?

Up to 3000 mm tall and 1500 mm wide.

Can you build a prototype cabinet?

Yes. Sheet metal needs no hard tooling. Sample cost and lead time are confirmed per project in the quote.

Who specifies the coating for outdoor cabinets?

You do. We pass your coating specification to our finishing partners and inspect the coated parts.

Do steel battery cabinets fall under CBAM?

They may, depending on their HS classification. The importer decides the classification; we supply the material data needed for reporting.
